【摘要】:BuildingproductsmadewithtapesareoftenusedforapplicationsforwhichTestMethodE84isusedforcompliancewithbuilding,lifesafetycodeormechanicalcoderequirements.Thispracticedescribes,indetail,specimenmountingproceduresforthosetapeswhicharenotabletobesupportedbytheirownstructuralcharacteristicsduringthetest.Codesareoftensilentwithregardtotestingtapesfortheassessmentofflamespreadandsmokedevelopmentassurfaceburningcharacteristics.Thispracticedescribesspecimenpreparationandmountingproceduresforsuchmaterialsandproducts.Thematerialshallberepresentativeofthematerialsusedinactualfieldinstallations.ThelimitationsforthisprocedurearethoseassociatedwithTestMethodE84.1.1Thispracticedescribesaprocedureforspecimenpreparationandmountingwhentestingtapesuptoandincluding8in.(203.2mm)widthstoassessflamespreadandsmokedevelopmentassurfaceburningcharacteristicsusingTestMethodE84.Tapesinexcessof8in.(203.2mm)aretobetestedinfullcoverageasappliedtofibercementboardasdescribedinTestMethodE84.1.2Thispracticeappliestotapesintendedforvarioususeswithinbuildings.Thetapesaddressedinthispracticearenotabletobesupportedbytheirownstructuralcharacteristicsduringthetest.1.3TestingisconductedinaccordancewithTestMethodE84.1.4Thispracticedoesnotprovidepass/failcriteriathatcanbeusedasaregulatorytool.1.5Thispracticedoesnotapplytomaterialsforwhichthetestspecimendoesnotremaininplacebeforeandduringthetestuntilmaximumflamepropagationhasoccurred.1.6Thispracticeisnotforsystemevaluation.Itisforthecomparisonofthematerialsonly.1.7Theresultsobtainedbyusingthismountingprocedureareconfinedtothematerialsthemselvesastestedandarenotcomparabletomaterialsthataretestedinafulltunnelwidthapplication.1.8Usethevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsasthestandard,inrefereedecisions.ThevaluesintheSIsystemofunitsaregiveninparentheses,forinformationonly;seeforfurtherdetails.1.9Thisfirestandardcannotbeusedtoprovidequantitativemeasures.1.10Firetestingisinherentlyhazardous.Adequatesafeguardsforpersonnelandpropertyshallbeemployedinconductingthesetests.1.11Thisstandardgivesinstructionsonspecimenpreparationandmounting,butthefire-test-responsemethodisgiveninTestMethodE84.SeealsoSection9.1.12Thetextofthisstandardreferencesnotesandfootnoteswhichprovideexplanatorymaterial.Thesenotesandfootnotesshallnotbeconsideredrequirementsofthestandard.1.13Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
